In 2010, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan applied as solo candidates for the seventh series of The X Factor, but failed to qualify for the "Boys" category. After suggestion by guest judge Nicole Scherzinger, the five were put together to form the band One Direction, thus qualifying for the "Groups" category.[8] After the elimination of F.Y.D.Diva Fever andBelle Amie within four weeks, they were Simon Cowell's last act in the competition. One Direction finished in third place behind runner-up Rebecca Ferguson and winner Matt Cardle. Immediately after the final, their song "Forever Young", which would have been released if they had won The X Factor, was leaked onto the internet.[9]

One Direction released their second single "Gotta Be You" on 13 November 2011, which peaked at number three.[15] The single was followed by their debut studio album, Up All Night on 21 November.[16] The album features One Direction collaborating with Savan KotechaRami YacoubRedOne,Ed SheeranKelly ClarksonSteve MacToby Gad and Carl Falk.[16] According to review aggregator Metacritic, the album has received "generally favorable reviews."[17] The album debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart, selling 138,631 copies,[3] and was the fastest-selling debut album on the UK Albums Chart of 2011.[4] The album topped the charts in Australia, Canada, Croatia, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand and Sweden; reaching the top ten in a total of twenty countries.
One Direction performing in Glasgow during their Up All Night Tour
On 26 September 2011, One Direction announced their debut headline UK tour, the Up All Night Tour, set for December 2011 and January 2012.[18] The tour was sold out in minutes of release.[19] On 9 November 2011, One Direction also revealed that they would be touring the United States with Big Time Rush from February to March 2012.[20] On 6 January 2012, One Direction released their third single "One Thing",[21] as a promotional single in various European countries and was released in the United Kingdom, 13 February 2012.[22] In the United Kingdom, "One Thing" peaked at number nine, becoming the third consecutive top ten single from Up All Night.[23] 21 February 2012, One Direction attended the 2012 Brit Awards. The group received the Brit Award for Best British Single.[24] During One Direction's acceptance speech for their Brit Award, Liam Payne stated the group would embark on their first arena tour in 2013, the then UK & Ireland Arena Tour.[25]
In November 2011, One Direction signed a record deal with Columbia Records in the United States.[26] The album was originally set for release in North America on 23 March 2012 through Columbia Records, but was rescheduled for an earlier release on 13 March 2012, with Columbia Records releasing a statement:[27] "due to overwhelming fan demand, their debut album will be released one week early on 13 March 2012."[28][29] "What Makes You Beautiful" was released in the United States on 14 February 2012,[30] where it debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number twenty-eight,[31] the highest Billboard Hot 100 debut for a UK act since 1998.[31] The week of release was accompanied by a performance on the Today Show at the Rockefeller Center on 13 March.[32] On 21 March 2012, Up All Night went straight to number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 after selling 176,000 copies in its first week, making One Direction the first ever UK group to debut at number one with their debut album.[5] In promotion of the album One Direction appeared and performed at the 2012 Kids' Choice Awards (31 March)[33]Saturday Night Live (7 April)[34] and the iCarly episode "iGo One Direction", which aired the same day as the latter.[35][36] In February and March 2012, One Direction announced Australasia and North American legs of theirdebut headlining tour with tour dates set for April to July 2012.[37][38]
As of 9 April 2012, the group is being sued for trademark infringement by a low profile Californian music group who go by the same name. According to the lawsuit, the band has been using the name since 2009, recorded two albums and filed an application to register the trademark name in the US in February 2011. The group say they are entitled to three times the profits made by One Direction, as well as compensatory damages in excess of $1million. The lawsuit claims that Syco and Sony Music "chose to ignore the plaintiff's rights and wilfully infringed them" after they realised in early 2011 that the two bands share the same name.[39] On 13 April 2012, a spokesman for the UK group responded to the claims saying: "One Direction’s management tried to resolve the situation amicably. One Direction’s lawyers now have no choice but to defend the lawsuit and the band's right to use their name."[40]

greyson chance's biography

Greyson Chance
At just 14 years-old, Greyson Chance has accomplished more than many musicians can hope for in their careers; two successful North American tours, performing at the White House, national television appearances on “Good Morning America,” “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” “CBS Early Show,” and, most recently, the release of his debut album Hold On ‘Til The Night fromeleveneleven/Maverick/Streamline/Geffen
Much of Chance’s celebrity began with a fortuitous YouTube post of a performance by the stage-ready 6thgrader for his fellow students of Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi,” but the whirlwind of expsoure and international opportunities that ensued for this Edmond, Oklahoma native have been such that can only be earned by his sheer talent: “Chance’s gripping falsetto and seasoned vocal style bellie his age…” (US Weekly).
Now, with a critically-acclaimed debut album, which boasts a debut single “Waiting Outside the Lines,” that sold over 160 thousand copies to date and was the #1 physical single in the country for four straight weeks; topping media lists for young talent to keep an eye on; and a recent stint acting on the hit primetime FOX Television show Raising Hope, which he hopes to parlay into exploring acting further, Chance has become a household name.
The now infamous performance of “Paparazzi” in April 2010 went on to become YouTube’s #3 most popular video of 2010 and has received nearly 45 million views to date. Catching the eye of a producer at “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,”  led to Chance’s first guest appearance and a fateful return a week later, where DeGeneres announced that she had signed Greyson as the first artist on her newly formed label, eleveneleven.  The rest – as they say – is history.  Chance has now appeared on “Ellen” eight times, which includes debuts of his singles “Waiting Outside the Lines” and “Unfriend You;” toured North America with fellow teens iCarly’s Miranda Cosgrove, pop star Cody Simpson and Big Time Rush; and most recently, performed for the Campaign for Human Rights with President Obama in attendance in November and atVariety’s Power of Youth benefit.  Chance will be honored in Pop Star Magazine’s ’12 in 12’ issue in January 2012.
Of his live performance, The Washington Post says “catching Chance [perform] at this stage in his career is akin to watching a thoroughbred of impeccable breeding gallop as a yearling. He doesn’t have his legs under him yet, and stumbles are possible, but the raw materials are such that it’s hard to bet against him running with the big boys in a few years.”
“Without Ellen, none of this would have happened. She's been so supportive of me and my music from the very beginning, and has also become an amazing friend!” says Chance.
The release of his debut Hold On ‘Til The Night was recorded in Los Angeles with famed producers such as The Matrix (Christina Aguilera, Avril Lavigne, Jason Mraz, Britney Spears) and Billy Steinberg (Enrique Iglesias, Katherine McPhee, Miranda Cosgrove).  Unlike many teen artists, Chance took on much of the writing:  "Writing and recording this album has been such a fun and exciting journey!” said Chance. “I've put so much hard work into it and I am so glad to have music out there for my fans. It's about overcoming fears but always powering through, and I think it's a message my fans really relate to.”  Entertainment Weekly says, “Chance reveals a surprisingly mature voice.”
The album, which Rolling Stone magazine called a “potential blockbuster of a debut,” not only showcases Chance’s talents as a songwriter, vocalist and piano player but also his wide range of influences.  From the empowerment ballad “Waiting Outside the Lines” to the light-hearted up tempo “Little London Girl,” Hold On ‘Til The Night takes the listener on a journey of teenage love and heartbreak complete with undeniably catchy hooks and Chance’s signature powerful vocals.
“This prodigy makes an impressive debut that owes as much to Coldplay as Bieber,” said People Magazine.
Looking forward to more exciting projects for fans in 2012, Chance  is currently in the studio working on writing and recording more music and plans to make more television appearances.

cody simpson' biography

Cody Simpson

With nearly 2 million Twitter followers, 2.6 million Facebook likes and over 117 million YouTube views, Cody Simpson is quickly shaping up as a true pop phenomenon.  The Queensland, Australia-born singer/songwriter is now poised to ascend even higher.  The release of his hugely anticipated new EP, “COAST TO COAST,” recently debuted TOP 15 on the Billboard 200 and features the Top 40 smash, “On My Mind,” as well as the classic heartbreak ballad, “Not Just You.”
Music played an integral part in Simpson’s life right from the start.  Seeing his dad sing and play guitar for friends and family at parties and backyard barbecues taught him the incredible power of music to bring people together.  Inspired, he asked for his own guitar and began taking lessons at the age of seven.
After learning but a few chords, Cody wrote his first song.  He continued practicing and soon began posting YouTube videos of himself performing his original songs alongside stellar covers by such favorite artists as Justin Timberlake, Jason Mraz, and The Jacksons.  Simpson’s YouTube Channel quickly created a worldwide commotion, receiving millions upon millions of views following its August 2008 debut.  Among those drawn to Cody’s extraordinary talent was a U.S. based music producer, who reached out to the gifted young performer expressing interest in meeting him.  Simpson and his family soon flew to the U.S. to meet with him, collaborating on a number of tracks.
In April 2010, Simpson signed with Atlantic Records, which then released his irresistible debut single, “iYiYi (Feat. Flo Rida).” “Flo and I worked with some amazing people,” says Simpson, “including Colby O'Donis, Bei Major and DJ FrankE.  We came up with something really catchy.  I think everyone can relate to the lyrics.  The song is about liking a girl and missing her when she’s not around.  Who hasn’t been through that?”
Now relocated to Los Angeles, Simpson soon began winning over U.S. fans with a series of live performances, including 2010’s Campified tour of over 30 different summer camps across the country.  Cody’s debut EP, entitled “4 U,” arrived in December 2010, highlighted by both “iYiYi” and the rhythmic pop of “All Day,” which rose to #1 on Radio Disney’s “Top 30 Countdown.”
“On My Mind,” the first single from “COAST TO COAST,” followed in May and proved to be Cody’s breakthrough U.S. hit.   The track skyrocketed to #1 at Radio Disney while also hitting the Top 40 at Pop radio outlets nationwide.  In addition, the “On My Mind” companion video – directed by Travis Kopach (Panic! At The Disco, 3OH!3, Boys Like Girls) – turned out to be a certified YouTube smash with over 12.5 million views and counting.
A truly charming and charismatic live performer, Simpson continued to tour nearly non-stop, including a sold out co-headline tour with Greyson Chance, shows alongside Miranda Cosgrove, and appearances at such events as the Arthur Ashe Kids Day festivities at the 2011 U.S. Open.  Cody’s own “Coast To Coast Tour” of U.S. malls – presented by Pastry and co-sponsored by Claire’s and Defeat The Label – drew huge crowds everywhere it went, with more than 3,000 fans turning out at each of its 10 stops to see the rising teen star in action.
Cody has also made an array of high profile TV appearances, including NBC’s The Today Show, ABC’s Live! with Kelly, Nickelodeon’s Bucket & Skinner’s Epic Adventures, The Disney Channel’s So RandomCBS Saturday Early Show, and the nationally syndicated Ellen DeGeneres Show, not to mention as a performer and mentor on Radio Disney and the Disney Channel’s “N.B.T. (Next Big Thing)” talent contest.  In addition, Simpson was among the top stars featured at Australian Nickelodeon’s 2011 Kids Choice Awards, where he won awards in a trio of categories, including “Awesome Aussie,” “Aussie Muso,” and the prestigious “Super Fresh.” Cody was profiled in a range of national publications, while also receiving extensive TV coverage including E! News and Access Hollywood.
